lyrics

You took me to a bar
As we crossed an old parking lot
There was a neon sign that lit up in the night
In the shape of a beer and cigar
Through the window I saw
A girl playing pool at the bar
And she glanced back at me and then went back to drinking
When you said come on, let’s go

And I never felt more alive
And that was the best night of my life
If I could, then I would go back
But I can’t

The next night you took me out
To a restaurant in town
Where we met up with friends
And we laughed and pretend
That we’re never getting out
You gave me look that said
“I know that this all has to end”
And I knew it too and it hurt me and you
So, we made an excuse and left

So, you drove me around
And you cried while I tried not to shout
If I could I’d stay forever
But I can’t

Always: Songs Your Parents Played is a project about running out of time and dealing with growing old. I hope its raw and simple music relates to the feeling of trying to do as much as you can with the little you have left. ... more
